History of the U.S. Customary system
The U.S. Customary measurement system first came around after the Revolutionary War when the U.S. became an independent country. When they won the war, the Americans decided they needed a new form of measurement. The first measurement they used was the Queen Anne's Gallon which was 231 cubic inches. They also used the Avoirdupois Pound which was 7,000 grains, and finally they used the Bushel which was 2,150.42 cubic inches. Then more and more states were being created so America really needed a consistent form of measurement. After some time the U.S. Customary system was created.
The U.S. Customary System today
Today the U.S. Customary system is not widely used since only the U.S., Liberia, and Burma use it. The united States' scientific community does not use this system either. Over all the U.S. Customary System is not popular worldwide but it works for us.
